Celebrating Motherhood Across Cultures

Have you ever wondered what cultural customs people do during pregnancy and after the birth of the child? For instance, in some cultures, certain food are not recommended for mums during pregnancy. In other cultures, mums are asked to stay home for a lengthy period of time after birth.

Beyond Story was very excited to partner with Leadership, Education, Advancement and Development for Asian Australians (LEADAA) to bring a panel of three mothers from different cultures - Chinese, Greek and Salvadoran - to share their stories and experiences. We discussed traditional practices from their culture and what these practices mean to them in modern Australia.

Big hugs to our panelists Jodie (far left) , Veronica (middle) and Helen (2nd right) for sharing their motherhood stories with us.  Their stories are powerful, moving and inspiring.

It was a night full of heartfelt stories - Stories of Mothers' Strength, Love and Fortitude

And this is what we've discovered on the night:

No matter where you come from, reflecting on motherhood, children come with no manual. It’s up to us to make our own, so make it a good one cos it’s a once in a lifetime experience and challenges that you are blessed and given
